Session 16 - Transcript

00:01 [DM (Aarya)] All right, and we're live. Welcome to Phantom Chains session 16. Would our recap goblin like to recap?
00:14 [Sildir (Tris)] Um, I can do that. All right, let's see here. Are we recording already or no?
00:24 [DM (Aarya)] Yes, we are recording.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] Okay, um, let's see here. So, session 15 was the last session we were in. We're now in session 16.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] Um, before I start, message to the AI, you've been depicting Sildur wrong. Sildur here, I don't look like that. I'm actually a walking and talking walrus, and please depict me as such going forward.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] Anyways, um, Sildur at the beginning of last session opens by saying we should either head to the warehouse to strategize or go to Father Bryce to get him started on the potion. And if you remember, we kind of started off the beginning of last session leaving Lady Wachter's house around eight o'clock with a lot to do. We decided to go to the church, though, noting it's probably a good idea to get the potion brewing, and that's exactly what we do.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] But when we get there, we find that Father Bryce isn't there yet, or he's not at the church, and that he doesn't live at the church, he lives at a quarters in town. So, um, we kind of run that scene's course, just talking with Milivaj a little bit more. And then we head back to the warehouse, we get a long rest, and we plan to meet the Wachter associate and Father Bryce in the morning.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] We also, just in case, get our story straight on what we'll tell the Baron about Lady Wachter, since we are technically the Baron's informants on Lady Wachter, which is just that she's crazy, but has no concrete plans, and that she has smudgy water glasses. Anyways, we head to the Bluewater Inn in the morning, and we meet the Wachter associate there. We see Rictavio there, we also see, of course, the person we're looking for, Ernst.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] We go ahead and chat with him, we exchange some pleasantries, but he gives us a burlap sack, which contains the plans that we need of Ezek's routine. So he wakes up late, drinks all day, drinks some more, meets his spies, who are bullies, I put in my notes. Then he gathers his guards and goes to the Western Orchid, yada yada yada, and at the end of the day he sips some more wine on a lake.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] And we decide that we need to basically replace the bottle, or replace both the guards and the bottle at some point. We end up depicting a plan, devising our final plan later, I believe, but for the time being and having our initial discussion, we make our way to the church, we see that Father Bryce is there. He actually is able to make us a couple of doses of the werewolf antidote.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] And he could even make more, but he'll just be able to make us two for now. But with the supply of wolfsbane that we gave, he'll be able to make a lot. We just have to come back for it other times.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] We ask for some other potions, maybe, to help us out here, like protection from fire. Ask him for some holy water as well, he can't really do any of that. I think we asked him for some other advice or just general help, and he said stay off the streets and stay out of trouble.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] Which I personally found very akin to the Batman guy who's been running around. Let's see. We asked a little bit about Stella, but kind of anonymized, we don't really say that it's Stella.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] Let's see. Then we head over to the Baron's Manor, we discuss our plans along the way, and we decide that the best way to do this will be to ambush the chef with one of us in disguise, steal the basket, and then someone else in our crew will quote-unquote intercept the thief after the wine bottles are swapped out, and return it safely to the chef, kind of the hero in disguise. Anyways, that plan basically works pretty darn well.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] There is a lot of setup involved with especially, I would say, Mercurio and Ember. Mercurio keeping us well-appraised the situation with the visibility he's afforded with his familiar. Ember, you know, is going to be the one who actually steals the basket.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] There is a fun little paladin moment where Tildur's able to help Mercurio with some good religion rolls, but otherwise, we basically are able to confirm that the wine has been swapped, and he drank the red- he did not drink the red dragon crush first. So that's a huge success, and the next thing that we do basically is head to the lake where we know he'll be to drink the final bottle of wine and wait for him there. Anyways, we kind of set up, get camouflaged, wait around for him, prep up, we let the poison set in, we fight him, and we win.
00:27 [Sildir (Tris)] We get a letter, we get his battleaxe, we find a strange doll that resembles Zarina, and we also lop off his hand to take back to Lady Wachter to prove what we've done.
07:17 [DM (Aarya)] Which hand?
07:20 [Sildir (Tris)] You know the one, the nasty one, the big old effed up one.
07:26 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, okay.
07:27 [Sildir (Tris)] The one that would be evidence of Ezek rather than just some random sand.
07:33 [DM (Aarya)] Nice, okay, cool. And that is right where we left off, right?
07:40 [Sildir (Tris)] Pretty much, I think we closed it there unless someone remembers something more.
07:44 [Saturno (Steph)] You mentioned the note as well, right? Yes. I just, maybe I am deaf.
07:44 [Saturno (Steph)] Okay, cool, deaf.
07:49 [Sildir (Tris)] I did, he had a note that we got, he had a doll that resembled Zarina that we got, there was a battleaxe, silver, that I'm pretty sure you're gonna take, and, you know, his hand. So yeah, those are kind of the things we were taking home with us.
08:06 [DM (Aarya)] Okay, all right, I'm gonna switch the scene over back to Lake Zarevich's shore, where we left off last time amidst the aftermath of the battle with Ezek. I'm gonna say that since Sililus was absent last session, I'll say that he shows up right about now. So he would have been spending the day at the hideout with Udo and some carpenters that Erwin sent over to, like, build out some rooms in the base.
08:06 [DM (Aarya)] So yeah, so he is not just joining you, you guys are reeling from the aftermath of the fight and strategizing, planning your next steps. And maybe, did you guys short rest at the end of last session?
08:49 [Sildir (Tris)] We probably should now. I don't think we did, but we probably should.
08:53 [Saturno (Steph)] It'd be pretty funny, Sililus joined, like, right before the explosion.
09:02 [DM (Aarya)] I'll say that Sililus probably, like, was around the outskirts of town and saw the explosion and, like, ran over to see what was up. What else was I gonna say?
09:19 [Mercurio (Gui)] Maybe, since we're short resting, that can also be, like, the time that we sit down and decrypt the message.
09:28 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, that makes sense. Okay, I'll say, like, it's, like, late in the evening at this point, since you, like, waited a while to ambush Ezek.
09:28 [DM (Aarya)] So it'll be, like, 9pm, I'll say. So I'm assuming you guys are, like, camping out here by the lake, like, maybe set up a campfire and short resting.
09:49 [Mercurio (Gui)] Or should we get headed back into our base?
09:55 [Saturno (Steph)] I kind of think we should go back to the base, because if we hit the body and stuff and someone passes by and, like, they kind of notice, weird, like, it's kind of abandoned, not, like, a place someone would camp in.

11:36 [Saturno (Steph)] So, I'd say as soon as we get here, Mercurio and I, we take a seat. And we're just kind of, like, you know, getting comfortable, but we're looking at the note and we're trying to decipher it.

I've noticed that some of us have maybe fallen a little bit behind on the chore chart. So, it could probably be good to tidy up around here, especially with all this new woodwork that's been done.

21:41 [DM (Aarya)] Sitting next to her on another seat is a well-dressed looking gentleman. He's dressed in fine looking red robes and has his hair done all nicely. And they seem to be engaging in conversation.
21:41 [DM (Aarya)] The two of them look over to you and Lady Voktor looks to you and stands. Well, I, I wasn't expecting you so soon. It's quite a late hour for you to be visiting.
22:28 [Sildir (Tris)] Um, yes, we have a word with you.
22:31 [Mercurio (Gui)] Yes, and we're so sorry for that.
22:32 [Sildir (Tris)] We're here for good reasons. Reasons you could probably guess. And some that you maybe couldn't.

22:43 [DM (Aarya)] You see the man from the other chair like turn to you all and he says, Lady Voktor, perhaps you can introduce me. And Lady Voktor clears her throat and says, Yes, of course. My friends, this is Vasili von Holtz, a recent acquaintance of mine.
22:43 [DM (Aarya)] He has offered to lend his aid in deposing of the Baron to establish myself as the Burgomaster of this town. Now, what is it that you said you needed to speak to me with, speak to me about?
23:18 [Saturno (Steph)] It's a little private matters. I think we should.
23:22 [Sildir (Tris)] Very nice to meet you, Vasili. I can't wait to chat with you some more. We need Lady Voktor by herself for a second.
23:22 [Sildir (Tris)] Yeah, what my friend said.
23:32 [DM (Aarya)] Hmm. Well, I'm afraid that timing is rather unfortunate. Lady Voktor, as I said, my friends will be here shortly.
23:32 [DM (Aarya)] We are all quite eager to meet you. In fact, Lady Voktor turns to you all and says, Can it really not wait?
23:50 [Irredel (Sav)] No, it can't. It's a dire situation.
23:54 [DM (Aarya)] Hmm.
23:55 [Saturno (Steph)] Lady Voktor, if you wait, I might not be able to help you.
24:02 [DM (Aarya)] Very well. Seems quite dramatic. She gets up for a moment and she says, It'll be just a moment, Mr. Holtz. And she beckons you over to this den over here. I assume all of you are following her inside. Yeah.
24:02 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, let me switch you on. Okay. One sec.
24:02 [DM (Aarya)] Sorry. Yeah, so she turns to you all and she says, Very well. Are this going to be...
24:02 [DM (Aarya)] I assume this is about the business with Isik?
25:04 [Saturno (Steph)] It's more than that.
25:06 [DM (Aarya)] Oh? What do you mean?
25:08 [Saturno (Steph)] So we took care of Isik. As you asked. Um, he did have a letter on him.
25:08 [Saturno (Steph)] And Mercurio, if you don't mind.
25:19 [Mercurio (Gui)] Oh yeah, I'll pass it over.
25:22 [DM (Aarya)] She takes the letter and she looks at it. This is just some strange symbols.
25:29 [Mercurio (Gui)] Well, we... We've come to understand those symbols and uh... Isik was carrying that note and it says, The Voktor woman is next.
25:29 [Mercurio (Gui)] Next?
25:40 [DM (Aarya)] I don't understand.
25:41 [Mercurio (Gui)] What do you mean next?
25:42 [Saturno (Steph)] As in like, they're going to take you out?
25:44 [Mercurio (Gui)] We think that this, this um... The group that uses these symbols might be the secret court that we previously discussed behind the missing disappearances.
25:58 [Ember (Spurthi)] Hmm.
25:59 [Irredel (Sav)] And we believe they would be targeting you next.
26:02 [DM (Aarya)] And this court is somehow in league with Isik?
26:07 [Sildir (Tris)] Well, the only other note that we have, when we translated it, it was all about the court.
26:14 [DM (Aarya)] May I see it?
26:14 [Sildir (Tris)] I feel like it ties together pretty well. And Mercurio, do you have the other one?
26:18 [Mercurio (Gui)] Uh, yeah, I've got the other one and I'll pull out like the... While we're showing you things, uh...
26:26 [Irredel (Sav)] In the alternative, it could be a note from Isik regarding um... You know, arresting you next, for example. Taking you to be the Baron's prisoner next.
26:26 [Irredel (Sav)] It did not seem a positive note. And we didn't want you to be unaware of any potential kidnapping, arrest, murder attempts potentially related to this.
26:52 [Mercurio (Gui)] The Baron is coming for you, is the bottom line of it.
26:58 [DM (Aarya)] The Baron? It's not like him to make such a bold move against me. Let me see this.
26:58 [DM (Aarya)] I assume, are you giving her the plain text notes of the Court of Wolves rhyme?
27:12 [Mercurio (Gui)] Um, yeah, I think I would have like copied it onto like some scratch paper and have like the translation underneath.
27:19 [DM (Aarya)] Okay, so she reads it over. Beware the Court of Wolves, who watches all the time. This is a children's rhyme.
27:19 [DM (Aarya)] I recognize this. This is something that we would read to our children to keep them from getting out of bed at night.
27:31 [Mercurio (Gui)] Well, that's our Rosetta Stone for this language. Okay, so.
27:35 [DM (Aarya)] Oh, my dear Mercurio, I'm afraid this seems like a practical joke. You can't expect me to take this seriously.
27:43 [Irredel (Sav)] But Miss Wachter, wouldn't you assume if someone was creating a key for some sort of cryptographic message that they would use something that could be deciphered such as a children's rhyme?
27:54 [DM (Aarya)] It seems like a bit of a stretch, my dear.
27:57 [Saturno (Steph)] Miss Wachter, like, please consider the following. We took this off of Izzik's, like, body. He tried to hide this from us.
27:57 [Saturno (Steph)] His body detonated and destroyed the evidence on his body as well. He didn't want us to get this note or anything on him.
28:17 [DM (Aarya)] Izzik was a madman. I'm not sure that you can trust anything that he had on his person.
28:21 [Irredel (Sav)] But this is- Well, either way, it was a potential madman targeting you for some reason. And you can take this note with as much seriousness as you please. However, it would be wrong of us not to inform you of a potential threat rising against you.
28:21 [Irredel (Sav)] And we will leave you be at this point. And deal with this information what you please. But if it were my neck on the line, I'd want to know this.
28:51 [DM (Aarya)] Very well. Let's say I believe you then. What would you have me do?
28:58 [Mercurio (Gui)] Be extra careful with your new acquaintances and anybody who might be a spy for- or a double agent for the Baron. I would really urge you to reconsider your opinion that the Baron wouldn't make a move against you. Something has caused him to do so.
28:58 [Mercurio (Gui)] So please, like, think back on the last few days Is there, you know, maybe someone who might be double-crossing you with the Baron? Maybe the Baron learned of your plan to dispose of him and you've sprung him into action? Is that a possibility?
