00:19 [DM (Aarya)] All right, now that's out of the way. Welcome to Phantom Chains, session 21. Uh, when we...
00:19 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, 21.

00:38 [Saturno (Steph)] Oh my god, I was so close.
00:43 [DM (Aarya)] We left off in the aftermath of the battle with the hags, would our recap goblin like to summarize for us?
00:52 [Sildir (Tris)] Sure.
00:54 [Saturno (Steph)] Oh my god, you've been promoted.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] Yeah, I was gonna say. I have a title now, let's go. Yeah, give me one second.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] I gotta keep looking through my notes to find the right thing. Okay, here we are. So we're in session 21, which means last session was session 20.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] And when we started session 20, we were headed to the town square, which was at the time decorated for the Festival of the Blazing Sun. And upon entering the scene, let's see, we were able to see that Lady Wachter was on stage. And so was Baron Vargas, who I think we'd previously tried to like go find at his house.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] But obviously, we did not see was here. Let's see. Fiona, I guess, was able to like talk him into advocating his position, which he does publicly.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] She gives a very political speech, introducing herself as the new ruler. People just seem like kind of confused and happy to go home. And let's see, we kind of listen in on their conversation.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] They're just discussing the transition of power after like the speech. But suddenly, there's a crack of thunder that pierces the noise of the crowd. And as that happens, the rain stops for just a moment.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] Then there's another crack of thunder, and there's a flying horse coming out of the sky. And who else would it be? But Strahd himself, who dismounts the horse, and basically forces Fiona Wachter to swear fealty to him, which she does.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] And I don't think she ever really tried to say she would do anything otherwise. I think we literally did talk to her about this, and she basically told us that's what would happen. So nothing crazy.
00:55 [Sildir (Tris)] Strahd is definitely, I don't know if impressed is the right word, but at least amused that we were able to get the better of Volinta, who is the lady vampire that we fought in the Maw of the Wolf, was it? Is that what it was called?
03:50 [DM (Aarya)] Maw of something? Something like that.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] Yeah, but that was, of course, the Court of Wolves hideout. We kind of thwarted her, even though she did escape. But Strahd apparently caught wind of it, and he offers us a boon.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] So specifically, we asked for peace for Barovia Village and no interference from Strahd or his forces in the lives of the citizens there. Baron Vargas is, at first, understandably upset with us that we overthrew him. But somehow, someway, Mercurio smooth talks him into it being a favor we did him, ultimately, saying that we basically freed him from Strahd's constant supervision.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] Uh, let's see. Next, we decide that we're going to need to go kill ourselves, the pastry maker, aka the hag. We continue along.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] We are asking Fiona for some extra hands in the fight, and she actually is going to go with us, considering that we explained to her that this hag is likely the source of her daughter's ailment. We prepare some sort of druid narrative for Iridel, just in case something crazy happens with her transformation on the way. We don't really want it to be super public knowledge that she's a werewolf still.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] Let's see. As we're walking, most of the crew notices, funnily enough, only Mercurio and Sildur didn't notice at first, that we're being watched by someone in the trees. We're able to find out from Ledoactor that it's a druid of the forest.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] He was a funny little guy, I don't know, very in tune with the woods, called us little birdies. He said that he was one with the woods. I'm kind of assuming the gender of this being, I don't know.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] But yeah, just a very connected with nature druid is the impression that I had, and a funny little guy. We made it to the windmill, where the hags actually, plural, reside. On the way over, we learned from, I believe we learned from Wachter, that usually there's a kind of a coven type deal, like there's more than one hag.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] We definitely find that to be true, but we start off and we spin that we need a catering order for the new festival to celebrate the transition of power. Sildur leads the charge on this one. So he's the one who's knocking on the door.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] But we all go in once we pitch the initial lie, which did work. The place is relatively filthy in there. It's really nasty.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] There's a big barrel of gobbledygook in the center that smells like shit. And yeah, we start saying that we need to inspect the place, because it looks bad, but maybe we can get it up to code and she can be our main caterer over time. So everyone gets to go snooping around.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] Mercurio and Pepito are doing some shenanigans, and so are Saturno and Ember. Basically, they're able to determine that there are, in fact, two more hags. The two hags upstairs are much more apparently hag-like.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] They all kind of have a secret transformation where they look much better than they actually look. They also hear a young voice that's being taunted up there. Anyways, at some point, the jig is kind of up, and we beat the shit out of them until they die.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] It was a really close fight. And Mercurio finished it off with what I call the big old T-pose. But it was like a big, you know, Mercurio levitates and zaps everybody in the room for three damage.
03:52 [Sildir (Tris)] And that fucking worked, thank god, because it was a really close fight. Yeah, I think that about summarizes it.
08:59 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, that was a really good recap. Covered everything that happened. And with that, I'm gonna go ahead and switch the scene back to the windmill, and we'll resume from there.

09:37 [Sildir (Tris)] It literally took, like, six minutes, the entire recap, but it's loading now. That's interesting. I can just keep recapping.

09:56 [DM (Aarya)] Um, yeah, in the meanwhile. So you guys are all standing in the aftermath of this gruesome battle you just fought. The first floor of this windmill was already pretty messy to begin with, but now is in complete and utter chaos.
09:56 [DM (Aarya)] The bodies of the hags lay strewn about, and there are holes blasted through the walls from where they fired their lightning bolts. Various pieces of furniture around the room are slightly singed, and there is an acrid smell of rotting flesh emanating from the hags. Yeah, with that, I'll let you guys take it away.
10:44 [Sildir (Tris)] Uh, who's down right now?
10:47 [DM (Aarya)] Good question. I think everyone was picked back up right at the end by Mercurio's spell, I think. Um, quite a few of you are low still.
11:04 [Mercurio (Gui)] I think everybody was, like, sleeping, and I woke everybody up.
11:07 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, that sounds right.

11:34 [DM (Aarya)] Iridel does have HP. Okay. Although, notably, Iridel looks pretty worse for wear compared to the rest of you.

12:22 [DM (Aarya)] Why are you trying to put them in the oven? At least the main one. Yeah, it's pretty spacious.
12:22 [DM (Aarya)] You can easily fit one hag. To fit all three of them would be a bit of a tight squeeze, but you might be able to do it. You can put your back into it.

13:20 [Saturno (Steph)] I just kind of stumble over, and I just start doing it. And I guess Ember sees what I'm doing, and she joins in. I just kind of look around, and I'm like, does anyone else want to do this?

15:15 [Sildir (Tris)] Alrighty. Not an investigator, but today I'm not that bad.
15:23 [DM (Aarya)] 13 investigation. Yeah, that's not bad. So you go through their pockets and all the various bags and stuff that are going on them, and on Morgantha, tucked away on a pouch that she keeps around her neck, you find a mottled-looking stone.
15:23 [DM (Aarya)] It seems to be green and sickly and pulses faintly with a glow. Ew. Yeah.
15:23 [DM (Aarya)] And as you handle this stone, it feels like slightly slimy to touch. And yeah, and this appears to be the heart stone.
16:08 [Sildir (Tris)] Jeez, even this is gross. I'll just tuck it away in the bag and I guess we'll go upstairs.
16:20 [DM (Aarya)] All right. The second floor we go. All right, so on this second floor, let me tell you what you got.
16:30 [Saturno (Steph)] It was on the third floor, so we have to go up once more.
16:41 [Mercurio (Gui)] So what's on the second one?
16:43 [Saturno (Steph)] This is just where Ember and I entered through, but we have to go to the third floor because that's where we heard the other hags.
16:52 [DM (Aarya)] There is not too much here. You just see some kind of storage crates and you see the millstone where presumably flour is being ground. Um, hold on.
16:52 [DM (Aarya)] These two are... Flour. Yeah, flour, quote-unquote.
17:08 [Sildir (Tris)] Even more hags.
17:10 [DM (Aarya)] These two are not there anymore because they're dead, but yeah.
17:13 [Saturno (Steph)] Oh my god, two memes, wow.
17:15 [DM (Aarya)] And on this third floor here, this appears to be a bedroom of sorts. It's a pretty cramped room, a cramped circular room. And up against one side of the room, there is a closet with the doors like hanging open.
17:15 [DM (Aarya)] And inside that is a rotting wooden crate containing two small children. Uh, let me bring these up for you. They're kind of like huddled in there wearing tattered clothing.
17:15 [DM (Aarya)] They look pretty like grimy and covered in dirt. And they, as they see you all coming up, they kind of like shuffle back further into the crates and look terrified.
18:06 [Sildir (Tris)] Hey, it's okay. You can come out now. The bad women are gone.
18:13 [DM (Aarya)] Who are you?
18:16 [Sildir (Tris)] I'm Sildir Goldenfield. I'm just here to save one of my friends that the hags were hurting, but I'm hoping we can help you too.

18:48 [Sildir (Tris)] Well, maybe you should talk to some of my other friends and you can see if you think we're monsters or not. I think we're definitely a lot better than those ladies you were dealing with.

19:43 [Mercurio (Gui)] Yeah. You get to go home now.
19:47 [DM (Aarya)] And as you say that, well, we were from Perovia Village, but our parents took us away to Vallaki after the devil attacked.

20:49 [DM (Aarya)] So the two children that you see before you are a little boy and a girl. The boy introduces himself as Fyodor, and the girl is Myrtle.

21:03 [DM (Aarya)] It is locked. But it also doesn't appear to be particularly sturdy.
21:08 [Sildir (Tris)] Okay. All right, well, Fyodor and Myrtle, nice to meet you. Stand back for a moment if you don't mind.

21:38 [DM (Aarya)] Yeah, so you are able to successfully knock off the lock, and the door creaks open. And as they do, the two children immediately rush out. It seems though that they're realizing that like, being cooped up in there for so long, they aren't as like, they're like starved.
21:38 [DM (Aarya)] So as they rush towards you, they kind of stumble and trip.

23:35 [DM (Aarya)] And as you do that, their expressions brighten up a little bit, and they seem to be a bit more at ease. Cool. All right.

24:23 [DM (Aarya)] So at this point, you guys left for the windmill pretty much immediately after the festival, which happened at noon. And considering all the travel time and the time you took to prepare and then fight the hags, I'll say right now it's about three in the afternoon.

27:24 [DM (Aarya)] It seems like it was quite the gruesome battle. It took quite a bit of concentration from my end to keep the hags trapped in this plane.

27:40 [Sildir (Tris)] Good job doing that. Do you happen to know any extra healing magic?
27:46 [DM (Aarya)] Healing magic is not in my repertoire, unfortunately. Why are you... Well, I can see that you are rather badly injured.

29:38 [DM (Aarya)] And a little ways down, not too far, at the base of the hill, in and around some foliage, you see the familiar sights of the megaliths that you originally passed by on your way here. When you were first setting out for Vallaki. And as you regard the megaliths, Mercurio, you feel that there's something emanating from them.
