00:26 [Sildir] Alright. So, at the beginning of session 24, we were still hidden in the cave underneath the winery, plotting on how we'll enter the cellar. We decided to at least attempt a stealthy approach. We did pretty well. We went and moved upstairs. We saw a woman kind of on a lower floor, kind of a, you know, little, what do you call it, indoor courtyard? Is there a word for that? It's like a courtyard,

01:02 [Sildir] but indoors, you know, an atrium, sure.
01:04 [Saturno] I don't know.
01:07 [Sildir] um and uh. there we see a woman torturing, uh, several ravens, and notably where many of these druids would have staffs or staves, if you will, she has a wand. um, there's also twig blights everywhere. um, ember does a pretty good job of sussing out everything in the area, and then mercurio also makes a little spider out of pepito,

01:37 [Sildir] who is suddenly a lot more Pepito-sized and goes and looks around for us. We decide to go for A room that has a big dying tree growing through it. It may or may not actually be dying, Just a quick way of describing a tree that looks super fucked up. Like if a tree could have a zombie form, it would kind of look like that And clearly the druids have something to do with it. I mean, I'll just say we did a really good job planning our actions here and like actually executing and going in and everything kind of worked according to plan. It's pretty nice.

02:34 [Sildir] So we have like a planned action. I actually noted them down. Saturno was the breach. Iredel was going to cast silence. Mercurio did a hold person. Slytherin will Misty Step and steal the staff. And Ember takes a shot with the crossbow. I'm pretty sure it plays out almost exactly that way. We beat the crap out of this thing and eventually it's starting to pass away. And it tells us this victory means nothing. Winter Splinter comes. so we uh you know we let him die basically and uh the staff that we take or took from him we examine it we learned that it's a gulthea stuff uh made from the branch of the gulthea's tree and it had the ability to control all the vine blades so mercurio breaks it over his knee um And when that happens, we hear a loud and human scream, and many vine blights and twig blights die within our visibility. The big tree in the room also shrivels and falls apart. We move on to the room with the ravens, where we begin setting them free and encounter the druid woman with the wand. She gives us... some silly willy story, but i think ultimately we determine, uh, that the druids of the woods or the wood people, or whatever the old folk call themselves,

04:39 [Sildir] thank you the forest folk. um, whether they really believed it or not, they bought what the, uh, the swamp witch was selling, which is that you know the mardukovs are, um, you know, are, are worthy of being driven out of their home, and really it belongs to the, uh, the forest folk in the first place, and that the mardukovs work with strad and la, la, la la. I think even this druid here kind of knows that at least some of that is nonsense. Yeah, Sildur, Well, once we're done talking, Sildur kills this druid, And then there is a ring that that looks similar to the amber of the amber flute that Mercurial holds onto, And there's some stuff about the ring that Sildur only knows, so I won't recap it here. People probably forgot, or maybe they didn't, Who knows. There is like some kind of internal monologue that was shared, just about Sildur feeling unsupported despite upholding his oaths very well, So that's a thing, I guess.

06:26 [Sildir] And we do take care to make sure that the ravens are freed, freed in a gentle and kind way. you know, that they're able to leave the building. Iridel also mentions the idea of were-ravens, suggesting that possibly the Friends of the Feather could be were-ravens.
06:52 [DM] I'll point out that the name of the organization is Keepers of the Feather, and Friends of the Feather is a term that Irwin used to designate you all as allies.
07:02 [Sildir] Yeah, good point. Thanks for keeping me honest there. With a good animal handling role, Iridil is also able to tell that one of the ravens that was flying around is certainly smarter than a normal raven. We clear the rest of the winery to make sure it's safe, and we... Also take a quick peek outside to see if the Strix are still a problem. We determined they are probably not there anymore. And that brings us to where we are now.

07:50 [DM] I'll go ahead and dive right into the scene again. I'm going to try to keep this session relatively mapless, but we'll see. OK, so you find yourselves in the aftermath of having cleared out the winery of the Druids that had had been occupying. At this point, it's getting late into the evening. The sun has set not too long ago, and you are stumbling out of the front door, just examining the area around. Hopefully, you're expecting to meet up with the Mardukovs relatively soonish. But for the moment, how is everyone faring after the perils that you just faced within uh this winery*...
08:49 [Sildir] I am a little beat up. I definitely participated in the fight and it shows, but I could keep going. I could do this all day.
08:58 [DM] yeah yeah sailor definitely took a reading and on that topic Iridel, you bore witness to at least a couple of your teammates risking their bodies in your stead to protect you. How does that have you feeling in this moment?
09:20 [Irredel] deeply unhappy I am very capable and feel that everyone has already been at risk enough because of me and it would just be better if everyone would protect themselves it also feels like ultimately it will lessen my responsibility in the end just because I do feel an obligation to keep everyone healed and healthy*...
09:46 [DM] All right. So as you guys are collecting your thoughts, reflecting on the battle that has just passed, you see a couple of figures cresting the hills not too far from you. And they seem to be, one of them at least looks like the familiar figure of Davian in his green cloak that you saw before. And he is accompanied by two others. You assume them to be other Mardukovs in the family. Yeah, what do you do?

11:16 [Irredel] all the druid blights are gone. We took out the leader of the druids and whatever staff he had been using to control them. So they are all done for.
11:28 [DM] I see. Well, I should check if, well, and he turns to one of the Mardukovs standing next to him. And he says to him, Adrian, go check if it's still there. And you see the younger man duck into the winery. Seemingly looking to check for something that Davion is concerned over. Alright, well, now that this threat has been dealt with,

11:54 [DM] I think we can have a more frank conversation. Did you learn anything from the Druids? Anything to suggest? Some plans that they had?

12:10 [Irredel] Well, he seems to, uh,

12:29 [DM] Yes, well, the Forest Hook have never been particularly kind neighbors to us. They've always wanted this land and this area for themselves. They did not take kindly for us setting up shop here.

12:49 [DM] It was a few generations ago my grandfather established this winery here. It's, well, all right. This winery, as you may already know, produces the wines that are supplied to the whole of the valley. And we produce three vintages. They are the Purple Grape Mash No. 3, the Red Dragon Crush, and the, well, the higher end of our vintages, the Champagne de l'Estampes. And each of them has a particular, well,

13:37 [DM] the grapes that we use to make this wine is grown with the magic of three gemstones that were gifted to us Mardukovs years and years ago. It seems that The Swamp Witch and now the Druids are after these gemstones, and I suspect that is the true reason that they have attacked us. For what end they seek to use these, I cannot say. But, well. And you see at this point, Adrian will come out of the winery, and he looks over to Davion and shakes his head. And now it seems that the last of the gemstones has been taken. Did they mention anything about a stone or a treasure or anything of the like?

14:44 [Mercurio] Not that I'm remembering.

15:02 [Mercurio] Even though we defeated them, they were kind of gloating that this loss doesn't matter because Winter Splinter is coming. Do you have any idea what that means?
15:13 [DM] Winter Splinter. I can't say that I'm familiar with this name, although Winter Splinter is coming. That's what they said.

15:34 [DM] I'm not sure what this could mean, but perhaps it's related to why they took our gemstones.
15:44 [Saturno] What purposes do your gemstones provide?
15:50 [DM] Well, we used them to grow the grapes for our wines, and without them, well, our wine production will be severely lagging.
16:03 [Saturno] So it helps it grow.
16:03 [Mercurio] But you need gems to grow wine?
16:08 [DM] Yes, well, the farmlands of Barovia are notoriously difficult, and in order to produce the vintages of wines that we offer, we needed the blessing of these gemstones. Without them, well, it's still possible, but much, much more difficult.
16:29 [Saturno] I wouldn't be surprised if there I don't know,

16:32 [Saturno] have an experiment going on and need something to power it or make it grow.
16:37 [DM] Yes, yes, well...
16:41 [Sildir] They're using it to whatever.

16:47 [DM] As you say that, Adrian will walk over to Davian, and he'll whisper something in his ear, and they'll converse for a moment in hushed tones, and then Davian will once again turn to you all. It seems... Adrian has just informed me that we received some intel from our scouts. The druids are gathering for some sort of ritual at Yesterhill. And, well, we suspect that the gemstone that they just stole from us now may be involved.

17:31 [DM] Ideally, we would be able to recover all three of the gemstones to restore the winery's production to its former peak. The first of these gemstones was taken ten years ago, and it was under Irvin's watch. And, well, he claims that it was stolen by a raven, which is nonsense.
18:01 [Sildir] Absolutely.
17:59 [DM] All of the ravens in the valley are... are friends to us or known to us. It doesn't make sense that one of our own would steal and abscond with a gemstone, but he was adamant on it and, well, I threw him out. The second of the gemstones was taken a mere five days ago when the druids and the witches' forces took the winery by force. And that gemstone, we know, lies with the swamp witch herself. And now it seems that the third gemstone has been taken from us as well, probably being used for this ritual. I fear that I must ask a great favor of you once more.

19:02 [Sildir] I'm assuming it's to recover this third gemstone.
19:07 [DM] Yes, yes. I suspect that the swamp witch may prove too great a threat for either of us at the moment, so recovering the gemstone for her may not be an option, but considering how you were able to send these druids here packing, you may be able to recover the gemstone at Yesterhill. I don't expect it'll be an easy fight, but I ask that you take this task for the good of the Barovian people.
19:36 [Sildir] Would that be the second gemstone, then, you're referring to?
19:40 [DM] The ones that the Druids have taken is the third.
19:45 [Sildir] Hmm. And they're at Yesterhill.

20:24 [DM] It's clear to me that there are still many pieces of this puzzle that I am not yet aware of. But what I do know is that the third gemstone is with the druids now at Yesterhill. And for the moment,

21:09 [DM] I cannot say. These... These gemstones bear great magical properties and we use their blessings to to grow the grapes here at the winery. But if all three were used for some kind of ritual, whatever this winter splinter is, then I can't say. I fear it would be a very dangerous ritual.

21:44 [Irredel] Where again did you say these gemstones came from originally? What type of magic are they based on?

21:51 [DM] I cannot say that I'm an expert on this kind of magical knowledge, but I know that the gemstones were blessed many, many years ago, much before my time, and given to my grandfather when he established the winery.

24:15 [DM] The other son, that's Elric. This happened about three-ish months ago. Three months ago, about when Doru and a group of others marched on Castle Ravenloft to overthrow Strahd. And Strahd awoke from his slumber and slaughtered them all, basically. And Elric was among that group. Davian thinks that Elric was foolish to go try and fight Strahd, and when he suggested the idea, he told him he was a fool and to never come back, basically.

And you'll see this woman step over in front of this model of Virovia. And she'll begin addressing the room. As you all know, we have been seeding the manor of Argenvost Holt to drive out the remnants of the Order of the Silver Dragon.
